Gentle Arms Of Eden

On a sleepy, endless ocean, when the world lay in a dream,
There was rhythm in the splash and roll, but not a voice to sing.
So the moon fell on the breakers, and the mornings warmed the waves, ‘Til a single cell did jump and hum for joy, as though to say,
“This is my home, this is my only home.
“This is the only sacred ground that I have ever known.
“And should I stray in the dark night alone,
“Rock me, Goddess, in the gentle arms of Eden.”
Then the days shone bright and rounder, ‘til the one turned into two, And the two into ten thousand, and the old things into new.
‘Til on some virgin beachhead, one lonesome critter crawled.
And he looked about and shouted out in his most astonished drawl,
Then all the sky was buzzin’, and the ground was carpet-green.
And the wary children of the woods went dancing in between.
The people sang, rejoicing when their fields were glad with grain,
This song of celebration from their cities on the plain.
Now there’s smoke across the harbor, and there’s factories on the shore.
And the world is ill with greed, and will, and enterprise, and war.
But I will lay my burdens in the cradle of your grace,
In the shining beaches of your love and the sea of your embrace.

Bolrom

I was seeking a voice of inspiration
when he floated through the food court at 2 am
with a beat box on his shoulder
that beat box blaring by his ear
something I recognized
And he lifts me off the ground whenever he hugs me
And he always sets me safely down
Like a rebel, like a sage
With his wild nomadic ways
He's Bolrom
He's so familiar
Well it happens all the time
He is wrongly acused
And he's walking on these streets
like he don't belong, exiled to the night.
Sometimes Bolrom sits for hours
Sometimes he's gone for weeks
And I don't know where
But he lifts me off the ground whenever he hugs me
And he always sets me safely down
I can't claim to know him
He's a mystery to me
But, oh, he's so familiar
When he called, I was surprised to find
he'd already been in for a long time
maybe a month or two
When the trials and tribulations
of the world get intwined
You'll space travel
Your tired mind
Your very worried mind
And the public pretender
wouldn't defend you
One slip and they've got all the reason they need
Yeah, they got me worried too.
Well he lifts me off the ground whenever he hugs me
And he always sets me safely down
He's keeping out of harm's way
But harm comes anyway
It's all too familiar
Pulling Street Spirits from your pockets at the end of the day
You try to do it like they say
I know it's not as good as they make it out to be
But don't give in , don't give up, don't let them have their way
'Cause he lifts me off the ground whenever he hugs me
And he always sets me safely down
I can't claim to know him
He's a mystery to me
But, oh, he's so familiar
